Yet Alexa knows something isn’t right with Queen Jada, her Inner Circle, and what she’s been told she must do…At first, I wondered what happened to Alexa and Caleb, but as AMULET OF POWER progressed I saw just how crafty the author truly is. I was pleased to see Alexa grow into her abilities and I enjoyed how well the author used the environs of the characters to truly set the mood. AMULET OF POWER is told through two narrators, Alexa and Caleb, which gave the story great depth. The magic in this world is subtle yet very powerful and I am a big fan of that aspect. AMULET OF POWER is a great second novel in this series!

I absolutely adored this book, it was even better then the first. I seriously could not put it down, it was exciting and fast paced. I instantly wanted to strangle Queen Jada for what she had done to Caleb and Alexa. The books starts out just where the last one left off and just gets better with each page. I really cannot say too much since I do not want to reveal too many details and ruin the experience you will have reading this wonderful book. Absolutely amazing!!!

Caleb voiced no other questions, though he still harbored his fair share of skepticism. In spite of Archer’s belief that Amulets were real, he could not get his head around the idea of embracing an ages-old legend. It was not until after weapons training, when the soldiers were practicing combat moves, that he began to question his beliefs.
“Pay attention, soldiers,” General Riley’s voice rang out. Caleb and his comrades had gathered around a clearing in the center of camp, and were seated upon the grass as their superior officer addressed them. “This is the most important training you will receive while in Alvair. What you learn here today will set you apart from every enemy soldier you may encounter.”
Caleb exchanged a wary glance with Swift, who sat beside him, before turning his attention back to General Riley.
The silence persisted as he walked off in the direction of the tents and Swift followed almost immediately, leaving without a word. Caleb was about to dismiss himself as well, but Santiago spoke.
“I know you went easy on me during combat training,” she murmured, “and you don’t have to.”
“I know,” Caleb said quickly, wanting to make that clear. “I saw you spar with Perry. I know what you can do.” After a few moments in which the only sound was that of the fire crackling, he added, “But you went easy on me too.”
Santiago’s eyes widened as she looked at him and he got the distinct feeling she had not meant for him to know that. Even in the darkness he could tell that her cheeks had flooded with color. Abruptly, wordlessly, she stalked off, keeping her head down as she went.

After reading the first one I thought that is one would be the same but I was wrong. This was better than the first. There was more adventure, suspense. It kept you wanting to know what was going to happen next. In this book you learn more about the Alexa and Caleb. This book has trials and you see just what kind of person they are and how they handle those trials and believe me when I say they are tested. You learn more about the Amulets and what they do. This is an excellent book and I really enjoyed this better than the first book.
FIVE POWERFUL ANGELS
I definitely loved reading Amulet of Elusion, so - despite my extreme excitement - I was also very nervous to begin. Sequels can be both a blessing and a curse. Luckily, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Amulet of Power was just as good, if not - dare I say it? - better than the first novel. I completely devoured it, and enjoyed every second of doing so.
I used to hate the memory loss plot in fiction, I will admit. I thought it was overdone, and frankly, taking the easy way out. Johnson, however, changed my mind by doing such a nice job with it I could not find a reason to complain. Oh, maybe I was yelling a bit at Caleb and Alexa because I wanted them to remember everything so desperately, but it was the good kind of yelling. In which the reader is able to follow them along in the story and fully experience all of the twists and turns.
Believe me, there's plenty.
The series continues to be the best kind of magical. We go further into the power of the amulets (thanks to the amulet of power) and get a deeper grasp of what they are capable of. They are such an intriguing plot point that I can't get enough of.
Amulet of Power is not just a classic good vs. evil story - it is so much more than that. The heroes have dark sides and the villains have light masks and it's exactly the way I like it. This, along with excellent development in general, has me handing out a handful of gold stars to Johnson for characters. (Metaphorically, but still.) Even the supporting and minor characters (Swift, Archer, I can go on) really stood out and had life.
Of course, Alexa and Caleb get a gold star each.
Alexa really proves to be an excellent heroine, and having to struggle with everything that she did just made me like her more. I didn't think it was possible, but Caleb managed to get even dreamier as a character. (Ladies, consider yourself warned.)
And Dante? I can't believe I'm saying this, but he's an absolute gem.
I love the fantasy, high adventure and (really love) the romance of Amulet of Power. Readers will be unable to put it down, and want the next installment of the series like it's the sixth amulet.
This one had me biting my nails and screaming at the characters, but in a really good way! I felt like an onlooker who wanted to interfere but couldn't. The suspense was thrilling. Also the twist at the end caught me thoroughly off gaurd! Can't wait to see what Johnson comes up with for the finalie!
